New year, new you! At least that is what we all plan for as another new year approaches. To make it happen, we have to prioritize fitness.
If we don’t, we may find ourselves with greater intentions than actions, and soon find ourselves slumping back into the same sedentary lifestyles. Self-care takes concentration and commitment in this busy time.
The trick is to find something that just “fits” in your lifestyle instead of finding yourself feeling pressured and forced to work out. We have enough pressures in our lives already. Start thinking about a fitness routine you might find enjoyable, such as cycling, yoga, dance class, swimming, etc.
Stephen Covey, the author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” says, “the key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”
If time is a problem, there are valid forms of exercise that can be done in 10 minutes a day and can be done anywhere. One example is the Royal Canadian Air Force exercises. These exercises were developed over 50 years ago and are still popular today. They can take you from very out of shape and gradually increase strength and flexibility until you are in a very fit condition.
Here are links to where you can download these exercise programs (one for women and one for men).
It could also be that scheduling is a problem. Maybe you plan to exercise after work, but by this time you don’t have the energy for it and blow it off. Or possibly you plan on exercising in the morning but end up staying up late and sleeping through your planned exercise time. If this is the case, maybe take a fresh look at how you plan your days to see how you could maybe rework things to schedule in a bit of “me-time” for an investment in your future health and quality of life with some exercise.
Whatever the problems might be, if you keep working it and making it a priority, you can work in some fitness time for yourself.
Make fitness a priority in 2017. Remember, without health, what do you have?!
Stay Well,
Stephanie
