We welcome the idea of change with a new year and usually make resolutions for the new year. All our health and fitness goals come to our forefront of thought and we visualize ourselves entering the new year with a new lifestyle. The problem is not with the goal setting and intentions, but with the follow through. We have so many commitments from family to work and our well being is usually the first to make it to the back burner. We have to learn to “fit” fitness and health into our schedule.
Some tips to take into the new year…
- Focus any resolutions you make on what you will gain (i.e. strength) instead of what you want to lose. Staying positive helps you stay better motivated.
- Don’t have an “All or Nothing” attitude. I struggle with this one as most of us do. If I am not seeing results, I tend to want to quit. Realizing that wellness is a journey meant to transport you to a total lifestyle change is what your 2017 endeavors should be all about!
- Get support to help hold you accountable. Once you find what will motivate you, talk about your goals to a spouse or a friend for accountability. I cannot emphasize how important it is to verbalize your goals to someone else who will support you. Give yourself the gift of wellness this year! Without your health, what do you have?
