Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or ubiquinone, is a naturally occurring compound with vitamin-like properties. CoQ10 serves dual functions in the body as an electron carrier in the electron transport chain and a lipophilic antioxidant. As a respiratory chain component, CoQ10 plays an integral role in the production of energy. As an antioxidant with widespread distribution, CoQ10 protects cells and tissues throughout the body against oxidative damage.
