Renewed Vitality Offers COVID-19 Acute Care and Aftercare
Testing positive for COVID-19 can be scary and overwhelming. Our providers at Renewed Vitality have experience treating patients afflicted with the virus and can help get you through your illness with knowledgeable and compassionate care.
We not only treat the virus itself but can also assist you with any problems that you are experiencing with your immune system. That way, we address the illness and any underlying issues that are contributing to it.
Viruses can cause complicated illnesses that can be debilitating and life-changing. Not only do people suffer from the illness itself, they often run into roadblocks when trying to seek medical help. And some have gone to multiple doctors without getting the relief that they so desperately need.
Dr. Spurlock has over 35 years of experience as a viral specialist, treating complex conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Chronic Viral Syndrome.
Originally, we only offered COVID care to our existing patients.
However, we now offer acute care for anyone who tests positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Additionally, we offer aftercare for those with lingering after-effects of the virus.

Acute COVID-19 Care
For the safety of all of our patients and staff, we are not seeing COVID-positive patients in the clinic, nor do we do Covid testing.
If you have confirmation that you have the Corona Virus, we will complete your initial one-hour appointment over the phone.
We are proactive in the medications that we prescribe and also offer inhalers if you have breathing issues. In general, we will prescribe a cocktail of hydroxychloroquine and antibiotics. However, we understand that each patient has different needs, and we will adapt protocols accordingly. We have special breathing treatments that can help too.
We will schedule your follow-up one-hour appointment a few weeks later (after you test negative) to continue to help with your recovery process.
For those who are still experiencing the after-effects of COVID, we have protocols in place designed to boost your immune system, help you continue to heal, and monitor you for any potentially damaging effects from the virus.
According to the CDC, people who are at higher risk for contracting the virus and more likely to experience ongoing side effects are those with the following underlying medical conditions:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Chronic COPD
- Obesity
- Chronic kidney disease
- Cancer
- Smoking
- Asthma
- Hypertension
- Immunocompromised state
- Liver disease
While these conditions can put you at higher risk, many people with no known underlying issues still experience debilitating and long-lasting side effects from the virus.
There is no “one size fits all” COVID experience, and each individual will react differently.
Our Approach to Covid-19 Care
At Renewed Vitality, we incorporate a Functional Medicine approach when treating our patients.
We will not only treat you for your illness, but we also spend the necessary time to get to know you, your symptoms, and your health history.
This allows us to delve deep and identify and address your specific health issues — and any underlying causes that may contribute to them.
We will treat you with medications as needed, but will also help you to strengthen your immune system, and identify and treat conditions that may cause continued health issues.
Our providers at Renewed Vitality are experts in helping patients with complex viral issues such as COVID-19.
We take a whole-body approach using the most up-to-date treatment protocols and research to ensure high success rates in healing our patients.
My husband and I want to thank Dr. Spurlock and his wonderful associates for helping us find the road back to health. We both enjoyed good health in our younger years, but eventually began to encounter some medical challenges of our own.
At first, we tried the standard options through our insurance network providers, but were only offered “cookie cutter” type treatment plans and lifelong drugs for symptom management.
The breaking point for me came when I was offered anti-depressants when I told my doctor I didn’t want to treat just the symptoms, but find and treat the root cause of my issues. My husband, a pharmacist for over 35 years, experienced much of the same, and even he didn’t know where to turn.
Thankfully, after a lot of research, we finally heard of Dr. Spurlock’s unique approach to diagnosing and treating patients. We were both impressed with the thoroughness of his evaluation of the root causes of our medical issues and the straightforward plan to help us return to optimal health.
We are glad to feel so much better, and what is even more of a blessing, our children, family and friends indirectly benefit as well. My younger son commented he felt like he got his mom and dad back!” – Mark and Kathleen
COVID-19 After Care for Complications Caused by Illness
Some people who have had COVID-19 continue to have long-lasting, debilitating symptoms. These patients are often referred to as “long haulers.”
- Inflammation in various parts of the body including the brain, lungs, and heart
- Intense fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Cough
- Joint pain
- Chest pain, or an ongoing burning sensation in the chest
- Muscle pain
- Headaches
- Loss of smell and taste
- Rash
- Hair loss
- Memory issues
- Concentration problems (brain fog)
- Sleep issues
- Blood clots
- Blood vessel inflammation
- Anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Depression
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
Our providers will design an individualized program to look for the underlying conditions that are causing or contributing to these symptoms. Then we will prepare a treatment program to restore your health.
Treatment protocols can vary because of underlying conditions prior to contracting the virus, genetics, and other health problems or risks. And viral infections can cause damage and depletion to the body tissues. However, these are generally easy to identify and subsequently treat.
We are experts at digging deep and finding the causative factors so that we can restore the patient to full health. This is what we specialize in!
While treatment protocols will vary, components of the program will include:
- Physical exam
- Intensive lab work
- Breathing treatments as needed
- Nutritional evaluation and replenishment programs
- IV treatments
- Appropriate hormonal and nutrient replacement
- Other, unique therapies should the patient require them

We Understand How to Improve Your Immune System Function
If you have contracted the Corona Virus and are having trouble recovering — or if you have ongoing complications — your immune system will be weakened. And depending on the state of your health prior to the virus, it may have already been compromised.
Illness occurs when the immune system becomes compromised. Its key role is to protect the body against threats from viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. Once the immune system is weakened, the mitochondria (powerhouses of the cells) lose their strength as well and can appear poisoned.
Our treatment protocols include looking for all agents that may be causing damage to the mitochondria and working to rid the body of these toxins. We also use specific nutrient supplements and other treatment protocols needed to get them functioning as they should again.
Many things can compromise the immune system:
- Poor diet/poor gut health
- Chronic disease
- Lack of quality sleep
- Physical stress
- Emotional/mental stress
- Toxins
- Lifestyle
- Autoimmune diseases
We can help you identify exactly what is contributing to your specific health condition — and allow your immune system to become robust!
An Ounce of Prevention… the Best Defense!
The best defense against any virus, including COVID-19, is to have a strong immune system. One key component of a person’s immune defense (and against the COVID-19 virus) is Vitamin D levels. Numerous studies consistently show that vitamin D levels affect both keeping the virus at bay and reducing the intensity, duration, and mortality rates of those who get it. With that said, a myriad of things can dictate how strong your immune response is.
If you’ve been to your family physician and had blood work done, you may have seen a portion of the picture of what’s going on in your body. Our providers run a comprehensive panel of tests that look at:
- organ function
- inflammation levels
- thyroid issues
- adrenal function
- insulin resistance
- cortisol issues
- some genetic mutations
- key vitamin deficiencies
- and more
By determining what’s lacking, we can help you build your immune system for optimal health and resilience.
For example, we can identify if you have problems with your liver or thyroid, both of which are important for immunity and detoxification.
For those suffering from chronic disease issues, our providers can help to look for underlying causes to get you back on the road to better health and reduce your risk factors when aging.
Our wellness visits identify the root causes so you can heal and be OPTIMALLY healthy — and live your life with vitality and wellness.

Insurance for Covid-19 Care
In terms of your office visit with the doctor or nurse practitioner, we are an out-of-network provider.
The reason for this is that when a practice accepts insurance, insurance companies tell the practice how much time they can spend with each patient, the illnesses, and conditions they can treat, and how they can treat them.
In order to get to the root cause of the problem and provide optimal treatment, we find we need more time with our patients and more treatment options than insurance companies are willing to work with.
If you have a PPO plan, very often insurance companies will reimburse you for much of your office visit costs. You will pay for the appointments at the time of service, and we will provide you with the necessary papers to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider.
If you are on an HMO plan, most likely your insurance will not cover any of the costs of your office visits, but will likely cover all or a majority of your lab work.
Regarding the lab work that will be required, many insurance plans have changed how they pay for lab work. You may now have to meet your deductible before your insurance pays anything for labs. This could mean a significant increase in your cost of lab work.
In order to better serve our patients at Renewed Vitality, we can now save you up to 85% off of Quest’s list prices.
